Techniques on Reducing Ambiguity Together

Description:

IIBA provides a great set of concrete skills areas and processes to help Business Analysts structure the way they think about their craft. All of it involves great communication.

In this session we’ll explore together a few lessons in effective communication taken from the distinctive and unique careers of three pioneers:

1) Virginia Satir - We’ll learn one of her many models for communication called the the ‘Interaction Model’.

2) Jerry Weinberg - We’ll use an interesting exercise from Jerry’s decades old yet timeless book ‘Requirements before Design’ to explore our interpreted meanings of very simple sentences.

3) David Grove - We will learn a few of his Clean Language questions and watch a short video clip of a Product Owner being asked Clean Questions in a story elaboration exercise.

You’ll take away a skill that you can possibly pass on to those who are on the receiving end of your work, so that they can get curious about word meanings, ambiguities and outcomes as well. I’ll share a few resources for further learning at the end.

    About our Speaker:

Andrea Chiou is an agile coach, facilitator and trainer in interpersonal communication skills. She uses these skills and her expertise in Clean Language to help organizations develop collaborative, aligned teams that can handle conflict and she helps leaders developer over-arching outcomes and change strategies that are well understood.   She graduated from CMU with a Master’s in Public Policy and has been working in a variety of capacities with IT firms since graduation. At one point she had enough credentials to learn about and pass the IIBA CBAP certification as well.
